Ukraine war updates: daily briefings as of March 12, 2016

Ukraine war updates on March 12, 2016 by ATO HQ operational data and Presidential Administration spokesman on ATO issues briefing: EMPR highlights

(1) The situation remains tense in the war zone in eastern Ukraine; Russian armed forces fired 75 times upon Ukrainian positions over the last day, including 59 times on Donetsk direction and 15 on Mariupol direction and 1 time on Luhansk direction;

 

(2) Luhansk direction: Russian proxies fulfilled one armed provocation in the area of Novozvanyvka with the use of small arms and mortars;

 

(3) Donetsk direction: the most tense atmosphere reported in the following three spots, which are Donetsk airport, Horlyvka suburb and the village of Luganske; but Avdyivka remains the hottest place in the whole direction, as Russian armed forces fired with forbidden 82- and 120-mm mortar launchers, grenades, small arms, 2 times from tanks and once from APC; tense atmosphere reported near the villages of Pisky and Opytne, where Russian shelling (small arms, grenades and sniper fire) does not stop during the whole day; Russian armed forces fired upon Ukrainian troops positions near Krasnogoryvka using 54 mines from 82-mm mortar launchers and once using sniper fire; two settlements near Horlyvka (Zaytseve and Mayorsk) are also reported as hot spots in the region: small arms, heavy machine guns and grenade launchers used by Russian forces there; finally, Russian fire spotted near the village of Luganske, the enemy fired there with the use of small arms, heavy machine guns, grenade launchers and APCs;

 

(4) Mariupol direction: Russian armed forces concentrated forbidden 82-mm mortar fire in the areas of Maryinka and the village of Chermalyk; in particular, the enemy conducted a series of provocations in Maryinka with the small arms and sniper fire; civilians that fulfilled recovery operations at the pipeline on Maryinka-Krasnogorivka root got under the enemy's fire, no lethal casualties reported, but staff were forced to suspend their work; another Russian armed forces provocation took place near Shyrokyno, Granytne and Vodyane; one civilian hit a mine near Marioupol, he is wounded, but alive;

 

(5) 2 Ukrainian serviceman killed in action in the war zone in eastern Ukraine over the last 24 hours, and 1 Ukrainain serviceman was wounded in action.
