The animated film “Kyiv Cake” by Mykyta Lyskov has won the main award at the 2ANNAS International Short Film Festival in Latvia.
According to Suspilne, the animator shared the news on Instagram.
“Liels paldies!” wrote Mykyta Lyskov, which translates as “Thank you very much!”
“Kyiv Cake” received the main prize in the animation competition. The 2ANNAS film festival took place in Riga from April 10–16.
Mykyta Lyskov is a Ukrainian animated film director, a two-time winner of the Golden Dzyga Award, a Kinokolo laureate, and the recipient of the Grand Prix at several international film festivals. His short animated works are filled with black humor, references to the urban culture of Dnipro, surrealism, and the spirit of the present day.
The 2ANNAS International Short Film Festival in Riga is the oldest and one of the most influential short film festivals in the Baltic countries. It presents innovative, unconventional, and socially significant film programs, as well as a wide range of professional events for industry representatives and audiovisual art exhibitions.
About the film
The events of “Kyiv Cake” take place in modern-day Ukraine. At the center of the story is a poor family in which a child is born. The parents struggle to survive in difficult conditions, but just as the crisis reaches its peak, a new danger emerges.
The director emphasizes that the film was created while living in Ukraine during the full-scale invasion and reflects personal experiences and transformations caused by this reality.
Recently, “Kyiv Cake” was included in the shortlist of the European Film Awards in the category “Best Short Film.”
Earlier, it was also selected for “Operation Animation,” a program featuring seven Ukrainian animated films on Takflix.
