At least 40 political prisoners from Crimea suffering from serious illnesses urgently need assistance. Five of them are on the brink of life and death.
According to Ukrinform, this was reported on Facebook by Elvin Kadyrov, a representative of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights on the rights of residents of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol, following a meeting with representatives of the North Macedonian authorities, during which they discussed the release of civilian hostages from temporarily occupied Crimea.
“At present, at least 40 people who have been unlawfully deprived of their liberty have confirmed serious illnesses. Most of these illnesses are included in the list of conditions that make detention impossible under the European Prison Rules,” he noted.
According to Kadyrov, at least five of these people are on the brink of life and death: Tofik Abdulgaziev, Halyna Dovhopolova, Iryna Danylovych, Amet Suleimanov, and Lenur Khalilov.
According to the Office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, more than 60% of all cases of persecution on the occupied peninsula target Crimean Tatars. The Office stresses that this demonstrates the systematic and biased nature of the persecution of Ukraine’s Indigenous people.
As Ukrinform reported, according to human rights activists, 560 people have become political prisoners during the occupation of Crimea.
