Ukraine war updates on March 23, 2016 by ATO HQ operational data and Presidential Administration spokesman on ATO issues briefing: EMPR highlights

(1) Tense situation is tense in the war zone in eastern Ukraine; Russian armed forces opened fire 44 times over the last day: 38 times on Donetsk direction and 6 times on Mariupol direction;

(2) Luhansk direction: the situation was calm over the last day;

(3) Donetsk direction: the town of Avdyivka remains the epicenter of Russian fire over the last day; the enemy activated all heavy arms there, in particular mortar launchers, tanks and 122-mm grenades; Russian armed forces attacks continue during 3 hours; Russian forces also opened fire upon Ukrainian positions near Zaytseve with small arms and grenade launchers; to this end, Donetsk airport was shelled by Russian forces with mortar launchers; Russian enemy also used grenade launchers and machine guns to open fire upon Ukrainian positions near Novgorodske, Zaytseve, Mayorsk, Luhanske and Verkhnyotoretske;

(4) Mariupol direction: Russians opened mortar fire 2 times upon Ukrainian positions in Pavropol; Russian forces also fulfilled a series of armed provocations in the area of Novotroytske, Granytne and Shyrokino;

(5) 1 Ukrainian serviceman killed in action in the war zone in eastern Ukraine over the last 24 hours, and 10 servicemen wounded in action.
