Kyiv Shooting Leaves 6 Dead, Infant Among Victims

A deadly shooting in Kyiv leaves six dead after a gunman opened fire in a supermarket and nearby street, then set an apartment ablaze – an infant is among those affected.

According to medical officials, five people were killed in a shooting on a street and inside a supermarket in Kyiv’s Holosiivskyi district.

A woman who was among the 10 people hospitalized with gunshot wounds has just died in the hospital. Authorities are currently working to confirm her identity; she was approximately 30 years old.

This brings the total number of fatalities from the shooting to six.

Medical teams also treated six additional people at the scene. Among them was a four-month-old infant who suffered carbon monoxide poisoning in an apartment adjacent to one that the gunman set on fire prior to the shooting in the street and supermarket. The child’s parents declined hospitalization.

In Kyiv’s Holosiivskyi district on Saturday, a man opened fire on people, leaving several dead and wounded. Police conducted a special operation to detain the attacker.

The man who carried out the deadly shooting in the Holosiivskyi district was later killed.

According to Ukrainian Pravda, his name was Dmytro Vasylovych Vasylchenkov, born on April 21, 1968. He was born in Moscow and held Ukrainian citizenship. He previously lived in Bakhmut, Donetsk region, and later in Kyiv’s Holosiivskyi district.

Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko confirmed that the shooting in Kyiv was carried out by a 58-year-old native of Moscow.

Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko stated that the attacker used a legally registered firearm.
