Russia Unleashes Largest-Ever Zircon Missiles Attack Against Ukraine

Russia launched a record eight Zircon missiles during a massive overnight attack on Ukraine, marking the largest known deployment of the weapon to date.

Russian forces used a record number of Zircon missiles during today’s large-scale strike on Ukraine. During the massive combined attack, Russia launched eight Zircon hypersonic missiles at once, marking the largest recorded use of this weapon system to date.

This was announced by Colonel Yurii Ihnat, Head of Communications for the Ukrainian Air Force, in a comment to ArmyInform.

“One of the key features of this attack was the use of eight Zircon missiles simultaneously — such a large-scale deployment of these missiles has never been recorded before,” he said.

Ihnat explained that Russia’s current strategy serves several objectives: not only to strike specific targets but also to exert psychological pressure on Ukrainian society.

“Russia effectively announced these strikes as an ‘act of revenge,’ keeping Ukraine under constant tension. This is an element of psychological pressure, but also an attempt to demonstrate to its own population the supposed ‘effectiveness of retaliation.’ At the same time, their primary goal remains unchanged — striking targets across Ukraine and attacking major cities,” the Air Force representative said.

Speaking on Ranok.LIVE, Ihnat also noted that the Zircon missiles were launched from the northern direction, whereas previous attacks had originated from occupied Crimea.

“The Zircons in the first wave attacked from the northern direction. As is known, the enemy has also redeployed Bastion missile systems there in certain numbers,” he stated.

Russia’s Massive Attack on Ukraine: Key Facts

During the night of June 2, the Russian military launched 729 aerial attack weapons against Ukraine, including 73 missiles and 656 drones of various types.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia fired:

8 Zircon (3M22) hypersonic anti-ship missiles

33 Iskander-M ballistic missiles

Hundreds of attack drones

The primary target of the attack was Kyiv, although Dnipro, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Poltava Oblast, and several other regions were also struck.

As a result of the combined Russian attack on Kyiv, at least 63 people were injured and six people were killed. Among the wounded were three children aged 3, 11, and 17.

Destruction was reported in eight districts of the capital, including damaged residential buildings, fires, and civilian infrastructure. Emergency services continue rescue and recovery operations.

In Dnipro, 11 people were killed, including two children and a rescuer. Residential buildings, a business facility, a fire station, garages, and vehicles were damaged. Additional strikes were also recorded in other parts of the region.
