The Embassy of Ukraine in Belgium condemns the planned Brussels screening of “Carnet de Russie,” calling it Russian propaganda that normalizes aggression, spreads disinformation, and denies war crime responsibility.
The Embassy of Ukraine in Belgium has strongly condemned the planned screening of the propaganda film “Carnet de Russie” in Brussels.
This was stated in a press release by the Embassy of Ukraine to the Kingdom of Belgium, according to LB.ua.
“Carnets de Russie” is a piece of propaganda serving the informational interests of the Russian Federation in the context of its military aggression against Ukraine. The film deliberately distorts factual reality, downplays the act of aggression, conceals responsibility for documented war crimes, and systematically blurs the line between victim and aggressor,” the embassy emphasized.
The embassy stated that it “strongly condemns” the planned screening of this “documentary” film, as well as the public event scheduled for January 31, 2026, in Brussels.
The embassy stresses that the film contributes to the normalization of violence, justifies aggression, and dilutes accountability under international law.
“Such narratives are an integral part of Russia’s information war and are used to manipulate public opinion and undermine democratic societies,” the embassy reminded.
Moreover, the film was created following trips to Russia and temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, even though any activity in occupied Ukrainian territory without the consent of the Ukrainian authorities is a violation of Ukrainian law and international law.
“Providing a public platform in Brussels for narratives that downplay aggression and deny responsibility for war crimes is a concrete act of legitimizing disinformation and propaganda originating from the aggressor state. This is incompatible with democratic values, the rule of law, and the principles on which Europe is built,” the diplomatic mission noted.
Thus, the Embassy of Ukraine will consider any support or facilitation of the film’s screening as a contribution to the information efforts of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
“Ukraine deeply values the support of Belgium, the city of Brussels, and the Belgian people. In this context, the Embassy of Ukraine unequivocally calls for the cancellation of the planned screening and all related events and urges all relevant authorities to take decisive measures to prevent the dissemination and legitimization of Russian disinformation and propaganda in the public space,” the diplomats stated.
