A powerful explosion and subsequent fire have hit a defense-related facility in Russia’s Tula region. Casualties have been reported as emergency crews struggle with ongoing detonations inside the site.
A powerful explosion followed by a large fire was reported Wednesday at a defense-related industrial facility in the Russian city of Tula, according to Russian media reports and local online communities.
The incident occurred at the A+A enterprise, a closed-status company reportedly involved in the production of small arms, ammunition, and other defense-related products used by the Russian military.
Videos showed thick black smoke rising above the city following the explosion.
According to sources, the blast occurred on Lenin Avenue, where the company’s primary production facilities are located. A major fire reportedly broke out immediately after the initial explosion, eventually spreading across an area of approximately 250 square meters.
Efforts to contain the blaze were reportedly complicated by ongoing ammunition detonations inside the facility. Russian emergency responders were forced to temporarily suspend firefighting operations and withdraw from the area due to safety concerns, allowing the fire to intensify.
Media outlets have reported at least three fatalities among individuals who were inside the production facility at the time of the explosion. Information regarding additional injuries or workers trapped under debris remains unconfirmed.
Russian authorities have not released a detailed official explanation regarding the cause of the incident. As of publication, no verified information has been provided by the Kremlin or regional officials regarding the circumstances surrounding the explosion.
Discussions on local Russian social media platforms have focused on several possible explanations, including industrial safety violations, technical failures linked to increased wartime production demands, or the possibility of external interference. None of these theories have been independently verified.
Tula remains one of Russia’s most important defense manufacturing centers, hosting multiple facilities involved in the production of weapons, ammunition, and military equipment components.
