Zakarpattia is full of surprises and interesting places – it is home to magnificent castles, sakura alleys, high-mountain lakes, thermal waters, and more. Yet few people know about the Vyshovat Waterfalls – a true hidden gem of the region.
Most tourists have never heard of the Vyshovat Waterfalls because they are not easy to reach. However, this scenic spot is definitely worth a visit. 24 Kanal reports more about it, citing IGotoWorld.
What is known about the Vyshovat Waterfalls?
The Vyshovat Waterfalls are three waterfalls hidden among beech and spruce forests in Zakarpattia, between the villages of Vyshovatyi and Petrushiv in the Tiachiv district. They are located on the Vyshovanyi stream, which flows into the Teresva River. Due to their remote location, tourists are rarely seen here, making it a quiet place ideal for hiking through the region.
According to Wikipedia, the Great Vyshovat Waterfall is 14 meters high, the Middle one is 10 meters, and the Small one is 2 meters. The waterfalls are not always visible, as they may dry up during dry weather. The best time to plan a trip is in spring, when the snow melts, or during the autumn rainy season.
The most impressive is the Middle Vyshovat Waterfall, which drops from a completely vertical rock face. It is the hardest to reach, but the views are definitely worth it. The Great Waterfall below turns into a steep slope and does not have a clearly defined base, unlike typical waterfalls. In the past, locals used the Great Waterfall to transport logs down from the mountains, which is why it was nicknamed “Povzalo”.
According to legend, the water from the Great Waterfall has magical properties – in the past, young women would wash their faces with it to preserve their beauty. On Ivana Kupala night, people also came here in search of the mythical fern flower.
It should be noted that the Vyshovat Waterfalls are not very powerful or fast-flowing – the water trickles down slowly, which is part of their unique beauty.
How to get to the Vyshovat Waterfalls?
By car from Mukachevo, follow the H09 road to Tiachiv. After the village of Bedevlia, turn left onto the local road T0728, which leads to Vyshovatyi. The village can also be reached by bus – first travel to Tiachiv, then transfer to routes “Tiachiv – Shyrokyi Luh”, “Tiachiv – Ust-Chorna”, “Tiachiv – Lopukhiv”, or “Uzhhorod – Ust-Chorna”, and ask the driver to stop in Vyshovatyi.
Once in the village, head to the end of Peremoha Street. As noted in Google Reviews, there is a picnic spot on the right side under the forest. From there, keep to the right side of the stream, and after about 300 meters you will see the first waterfall.
What else is interesting to see in Zakarpattia?
Recently, stunning light-purple wisteria have bloomed in Uzhhorod. The blooming period lasts 2–3 weeks, so it is worth planning a trip soon. The exact locations where to find the flowering trees are listed here.
As for sakura blossoms, it is better to plan a trip for next year – the flowers are already fading. Photos have appeared online showing petals covering the ground like a pink carpet.
