Theatrical Show “KUM” About Ukrainian Music Stars to Be Presented in Berlin

The premiere of the performative project “KUM: The Cult of Ukrainian Music” took place in the German capital on April 11. The theatrical and musical show by the band Bezlich will present lesser-known stories of outstanding Ukrainian composers and performers — from classical figures to legends of the 1990s.

This was reported by Ukrinform, citing the Facebook page of Amal Berlin Ukraine.

The project “KUM” aims to popularize the names of those who laid the foundation of Ukrainian musical culture, often working under conditions of persecution and bans. In a performance format, the images of these artists will “come to life” to tell their unconventional stories and share inspiration with a modern audience.

Musicians of the indie band Bezlich promise to present these stars from an unexpected perspective. The program features figures such as Mykola Lysenko and Platon Maiboroda, the flamboyant Sestrychka Vika, the tragic and grand story of Volodymyr Ivasyuk, as well as little-known facts about the band Skryabin (including why the group was on the verge of breaking up at the beginning of its career).

The event is organized by the music collective Bezlich, which was formed in Berlin in 2024. Its main mission is to support Ukraine and promote Ukrainian art abroad. In addition to the theatrical experience and live performances of legendary compositions, guests will be offered traditional Ukrainian treats.

The event starts at 7:00 PM. Venue: Hotel Continental – Art Space in Exile (Elsenstraße 87, 12435 Berlin). Ticket prices start from €10 (with early booking).

As a reminder, a two-year public research project “Writing the City’s History: Ukrainian Perspectives in the Berlin Dialogue” has recently launched in Berlin, dedicated to the history of Ukrainians and Poles in the German capital.
