Ukraine’s national ice hockey team made a successful start to the new European Cup of Nations season, securing a comeback 2–1 victory over Poland in their debut match under new head coach Oleksandr Bobkin.
According to ShoTam, this was reported by Suspilne Sport.
The match began with Poland taking the lead. Late in the first period, the opponents capitalized on a power play when Jonas Hofmann scored from close range. The Blue and Yellow managed to equalize halfway through the second period, as Daniil Trakht fired a long-range shot past the opposing defense.
Ihor Merezhko scored the winning goal early in the third period, taking advantage of Ukraine’s power play and finding the far corner of the net unmarked.
The victory over Poland marked the Ukrainian national team’s third consecutive win in the European Cup of Nations, taking into account the results of last season. Following the first round, Ukraine sits second in the standings, trailing Italy only on goal difference.
The Ukrainian hockey team will play its next tournament match against Great Britain on Friday, November 6.
It will be recalled that a Ukrainian athlete became the world para-armwrestling champion.
