Kherson is being encircled by russian drones

Russian drones are actively attacking the access routes to Kherson, particularly the Mykolaiv – Kherson highway, attempting to encircle the city with drones.

This was reported by journalist of suspilne from Kherson, Ivan Antypenko.

According to him, throughout July, Russian drones have been systematically attacking several sections of the road. A truck has already been destroyed, and several civilian vehicles damaged. Drone-destroyed vehicles have been recorded on the Kherson – Mykolaiv highway.

“This is a car burned by a drone on the Kherson–Mykolaiv highway. And it’s very bad news.

As you know, this is a key road connecting Kherson with the northern outskirts, used by most people traveling in this direction.

Throughout July, Russian forces have been massively attacking several segments of this road. A truck has already been burned, and several civilian vehicles hit.

The enemy clearly wants to take control of this road, as large portions of the Maryanske–Beryslav route or the road to Snihurivka are already under their control.

This means we are effectively losing a significant part of the right bank – I mean civilian activity that still seemed possible as recently as 2023.

For example, some farmers have been unable to harvest crops sown last fall or this spring.

Drones, large FPVs, and occasional rocket artillery have torched fields and destroyed harvesters.
Kherson and nearby villages are also under constant fire. Today, KAB bombs hit the city center, and afterward, FPVs circled over the strike site – a common tactic in recent months. There’s no district in the city that drones don’t reach.

The Russians are gradually – but largely successfully – expanding their zone of control and reach on the right bank.

At the same time, I see that the city and the roads leading to it remain completely unprotected. The simplest countermeasures – like FPV nets that could’ve been installed on key streets and highways – are absent.

Journalist Antypenko reminds that mass drone strikes on civilians and destruction of infrastructure in the coastal areas of Kherson region began in June–July last year.

“So Ukrainian officials had over a year to react and plan for a scenario in which the enemy expands its drone attack zone.

Yes, there are EW systems and mobile units that shoot down drones. They do a lot – but it’s not enough. The Russians attack from the air daily.”
