Ukraine has disbanded the International Legion, according to Le Monde, reassigning foreign volunteers to assault regiments tasked with the most dangerous, high-casualty missions – a move commanders say destroyed an effective service model and squandered a unique resource of the Armed Forces.

Foreign volunteers were reassigned to assault regiments responsible for the most dangerous and high-casualty combat missions.

According to unit commanders, this decision dismantled a functioning and effective system for integrating foreign fighters and squandered one of the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s most unique resources.

This was not a sudden development. It has been known since last summer.

The implementation of this policy began at least six months ago and represents a deeply shameful chapter.

Foreign units were deliberately broken apart, soldiers were forcibly separated from their comrades, and individuals were scattered across different formations and locations.

One after another, foreign soldiers refused to continue serving under these conditions. Many openly stated that they would not participate in a system where cohesion was destroyed, command responsibility was absent, and they were effectively sent on suicide missions.

What had once been a structured, motivated, and highly capable force was reduced to expendable manpower through deliberate administrative decisions.
