A 17-year-old Ukrainian athlete just made history – U17 gold medal, national record, and a breakthrough performance leading his team to one of its strongest finishes in years.
A student of the Berdychiv Military Lyceum is the 2026 Ukrainian Weightlifting Champion!
From March 30 to April 4, the Ukrainian Weightlifting Championship among boys and girls under 17 took place in Kolomyia, Ivano-Frankivsk region, dedicated to the Defenders of Ukraine. The Zhytomyr region team performed well, bringing together talented weightlifters from Berdychiv. This was reported by Berdychivbiz.
A standout performance came from Mark Hvizdon, a student of the Berdychiv Military Lyceum. The young athlete became the Ukrainian champion in his weight category, successfully met the standard for Master of Sports of Ukraine, and set a new national record in the clean and jerk.
Among all participants of the youth championship, only two athletes managed to break national records — and one of those achievements belongs to the Berdychiv lyceum student. In addition to gold in the clean and jerk, Mark also won a silver medal in the snatch.
The results of other Berdychiv athletes were no less impressive:
Vitalina Telishevska — a bronze medalist of the tournament, who stepped onto the podium three times: bronze in the snatch, the clean and jerk, and the total.
Artem Ravshanov (65 kg weight category) — a silver medalist of the championship, with an additional bronze in the snatch and silver in the clean and jerk.
Viktoriia Kolodii — a bronze medalist, who also claimed an individual bronze in the snatch.
Other team members also demonstrated excellent preparation and strong character: Diana Padun, Kira Levandovska, Arina Levandovska, Alina Kozhushko, Arsenii Kosmin, Roman Pylypenko, and Denys Ohorodniichuk. Thanks to their improved personal results, the Zhytomyr region team earned additional team points.
In the overall standings, Berdychiv weightlifters won two gold, three silver, and six bronze medals, set a new Ukrainian record in the clean and jerk, and secured a strong fourth place in the team ranking among 22 regions. This is one of the best results of the Berdychiv Youth Sports School in recent years.
The young champions are coached by experienced specialists — Liudmyla Hvizdon and Andrii Hvizdon. The team’s success is the result of systematic work, daily training, and a genuine passion for weightlifting.
All the medals and records achieved are dedicated by the Berdychiv weightlifters to our brave soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!
We invite boys and girls to join weightlifting classes at the Berdychiv Youth Sports School. Training sessions take place from Monday to Friday at 4:30 PM. Come and build strength, character, and win together with us!
