Ukraine Launches A1 Defense AI Warfare Hub

The newly established Defense AI Center “A1” under the Ministry of Defense will operate as a full-fledged hub for the development and implementation of artificial intelligence in defense.

Ukraine is turning war data into AI-powered battlefield advantage. The new A1 Defense AI Center aims to accelerate innovation and reshape modern warfare in real time.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the Ministry of Defense.

“Our key task is to develop and implement AI in the defense sector to bring victory closer. This includes several areas: battlefield solutions, AI for the internal needs of the Ministry of Defense and the defense ecosystem, as well as accelerating innovation cycles in related industries,” said the head of the center, Danylo Tsvok.

The center’s main mission is to turn AI into a real advantage on the battlefield and to accelerate the innovation cycle — from frontline data analysis to the deployment of management tools and autonomous systems.

In addition, the center’s direct activities will include forecasting combat operations, developing autonomous systems, creating new management tools, and building AI infrastructure.

“We are focusing on three things: in-house development, research, and the practical implementation of AI — in combat conditions, internal processes, and R&D. A separate task of the center will be to establish approaches to working with combat data: its quality, protection, standardization, and use for training new systems,” Tsvok noted, adding that this is what will enable the scaling of real wartime experience.

The center, implemented with the support of the UK government, will rely on aggregating Ukraine’s unique experience — deep domain expertise of the military combined with the rapid development of the national AI industry. Information processing will be based on open and legitimate data from the defense sector, with strict adherence to security procedures.

The development strategy of the “A1” Center also provides for active integration of the engineering community and business.

The Center will be highly open to partnerships, joint development, and piloting projects in Ukraine. Due to the circumstances of the war, Ukraine has become a unique environment where solutions can be tested very quickly in real conditions,” said the head of “A1,” inviting Ukrainian and international companies to cooperate and join efforts in the technological war.

As reported by Ukrinform, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is launching its first military technology competence center — the Defense AI Center “A1,” which will help more rapidly transform combat experience and frontline data into technological solutions and accelerate the implementation of innovations in the armed forces.
