Weather disrupted transport across Germany, closing motorways, delaying flights, and forcing rail restrictions, as Baden-Württemberg reported accidents, evacuations, and up to 25 centimeters of snowfall.
Heavy snowfall in Germany has caused numerous road accidents, and rail passengers should expect service cancellations.
Tagesschau reports this, as cited by European Pravda.
As of the morning of January 26, the German state of Baden-Württemberg has been the hardest hit. On one of the motorways, several vehicles had to be evacuated, and the A8 motorway has been closed in the direction of Munich.
According to preliminary data, the accidents resulted in several minor injuries and mostly material damage.
The German Meteorological Service (DWD) said that up to 25 centimeters of snow fell in parts of the state.
According to Deutsche Bahn, weather-related restrictions were introduced between Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt and Waiblingen.
Weather conditions also caused significant delays at Stuttgart Airport. Two scheduled landings from Frankfurt and Dubai were canceled, and several other arrivals were significantly delayed.
On Sunday evening, the Ministry of the Interior issued a warning about adverse weather conditions for the administrative districts of Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, and Tübingen, citing the DWD.
In Hungary, severe weather recently forced the temporary suspension of operations at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport. The airport of Slovakia’s capital, Bratislava, was also closed due to adverse weather conditions.
It was also reported that weather conditions forced staff to close Vienna International Airport and limit the number of flights at Václav Havel Airport in Prague.
