OpCritical Releases ‘Liar Liar’: Punk-Rock Protest Against Oligarchy and Disinformation

Alternative punk project OpCritical has released its latest single and music video, Liar Liar,” a politically charged anthem aimed at exposing the dangers of oligarchy, manipulation, and the concentration of power.

Released on June 16, the track marks the band’s fifth single of 2026 and continues its mission of using music as a vehicle for civic awareness and democratic values.

A Punk-Rock Warning About Power and Deception

Built around a driving blend of punk rock, alternative rock and electronic textures, “Liar Liar” delivers an uncompromising message about elites who rise to influence through misinformation and then use that power against society.

Its recurring refrain —

“Liar, liar, world’s on fire, everywhere’s a funeral pyre…”

— serves both as a warning and a rallying cry for civic engagement.

According to the anonymous collective behind OpCritical, the song is intended to encourage peaceful protest and democratic participation.

“We have all seen the destructive conduct of oligarchs around the world who amass great wealth and power but refuse to use them to help society,” the band said. “We are calling out those oligarchs and urging citizens to engage in peaceful protest and civic action to hold them accountable.”

LEGO Imagery and Symbolism

Directed and edited by Dmytro Laiko, the accompanying music video employs LEGO-style characters to portray generic oligarchs and ordinary citizens.

The symbolism is deliberate: structures of power that appear invincible can quickly collapse when communities organize and apply collective pressure.

Dark cinematic visuals depict social division, propaganda, and eventual resistance, reinforcing the song’s central message that democracy depends on public participation.

Literary and Political References

Several lyrics reference themes associated with George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four, particularly the manipulation of language and the shifting definitions of enemies and allies.

Other lines criticize fear-based politics and the use of external threats to justify conflict, while highlighting how xenophobia and disinformation can be exploited to consolidate power.

The song adopts the classic tradition of protest music, favoring direct messaging over subtle metaphors.

Critics Praise “Liar Liar

Early reviews have been enthusiastic.

Spanish music publication Rock and Blog described the single as a protest song rooted in democratic values and noted its references to Orwell, Lewis Carroll and broader debates surrounding media narratives and civic responsibility.

Meanwhile, music outlet Plastic Magazine praised the track’s “cerebral alternative rock-meets-electro-punk energy,” highlighting its cinematic production and socially conscious message.

Reviewers also singled out the song’s dynamic arrangement and striking visual storytelling, comparing its intensity to early Hollywood Undead.

A Continuing Musical Campaign

Formed in 2026, OpCritical has built a reputation for releasing songs focused on contemporary social and political issues.

The group says it intends to continue producing music addressing plutocracy, kleptocracy, and threats to democratic institutions.

Since its debut earlier this year, OpCritical has attracted millions of YouTube views, international radio airplay, and positive reviews from music journalists and bloggers around the world.

Liar Liar” is available on YouTube and streaming platforms worldwide.
