Zelenskyy’s Reaction

According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Russian forces deliberately struck a crowded area where shops, a post office, and the homes of ordinary people are located.

“As of now, we know of ten people who were killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Many people were injured, and they are receiving all necessary medical assistance. Rescuers have already extinguished the fire, while all emergency and response services continue to work at the scene,” the Ukrainian leader said.

Reaction from Ukraine’s Foreign Minister

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha also responded to the Russian strike on Pechenihy. He said that Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin continues to prolong the war and reject Kyiv’s realistic proposals to end the hostilities.

According to the foreign minister, as long as the Kremlin shows no willingness to pursue peace, international pressure on Russia must only increase. This includes new sanctions, further international isolation of Russia, and holding the Russian side accountable for crimes it has committed.

“I call on all states to join our efforts to ensure accountability, including through the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine, which will soon begin its work in The Hague. Accountability for Russia’s crimes is a matter of principle — not only for the victims of Russian attacks, but for the entire international community,” the statement said.
