US First Lady Melania Trump has been awarded Ukraine’s Order of Princess Olga for her humanitarian efforts, including helping return deported Ukrainian children and facilitating a ceasefire in occupied Oleshky.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a decree awarding Melania Trump, the wife of the US president, the Order of Princess Olga, First Class. The document, dated November 2, was published on the website of the President of Ukraine on November 4. This was reported by Radio Svoboda.

Donald Trump’s wife received the award “for her significant personal contribution to humanitarian support for Ukraine, active human rights and charitable activities aimed at rescuing Ukrainian children and citizens affected by Russian aggression, as well as those illegally deported and forcibly displaced from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine by the Russian Federation.”

The wife of the US president has been actively involved in efforts to return children who were taken from Ukraine to Russia following Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. Through her mediation, several dozen children have been returned, and dozens of families from Ukraine and Russia have been reunited.

At Melania Trump’s initiative, as both the Ukrainian and Russian sides have emphasized, a humanitarian ceasefire was declared in the city of Oleshky in the Russian-occupied part of Kherson Oblast. Several hundred civilians were evacuated from the city, where they had been living amid critical shortages of food and other essential supplies.

US First Lady Melania Trump will host representatives from Ukraine and Russia at the White House, the White House press office announced, without specifying the date or who exactly will take part in the meeting. Neither the Ukrainian nor the Russian side has commented on the announcement so far.

The statement described the meeting between representatives of the two countries at war as “a historic moment in the history of the United States.”

The White House also said that on November 5, the wife of US President Donald Trump would make a statement regarding the recent “period of silence” established to carry out a humanitarian operation in Oleshky, in Kherson Oblast, which is occupied by Russia.
