The Divine Face of Kyiv: A Discovery as a Sign

A city is a living organism with a unique origin, character, soul, history, fate, and countless features akin to a human being. Geography, natural conditions, and historical events leave their marks, symbols, and signs on the face of a city, shaping its spirit and aura.

Humans are inherently connected to all events in a city. Much depends on whether they preserve the city’s centuries-old atmosphere, grandeur, and individuality.

The history of our ancient city, its historical and spiritual monuments, and landmarks can be discussed endlessly. Kyiv is a city undoubtedly marked by God, mysterious and symbolic, still not fully revealing its true purpose.

Over centuries, ancient Kyiv was called the “Mother of Russian Cities.” The city abounds with places of spiritual attraction rooted in ancient times, mystical spots of Old Rus’. Kyiv’s land hides many mysteries.

And now comes, without exaggeration, a sensational discovery that grants Kyiv another symbol of greatness — its Face.

The world holds many wonders and mysteries that have fascinated humanity for centuries without clear explanations: Egyptian pyramids, the Bermuda Triangle, Easter Island statues, Malta’s radial grooves, pyramid-like mountains in Tibet, and signs of unknown civilizations. Kyiv’s Divine Face rightfully joins these ranks.

The first to notice the “face” of Kyiv was architect Heorhiy Kurovskyi, Kyiv’s chief city artist. The sight left him stunned, and he did not even tell acquaintances for a long time — in the 1990s, people simply did not believe such things.

“How did I notice it?”
“A huge map of Kyiv lay on the table,” Kurovskyi recalls. “It had no streets or buildings. I looked closely and was amazed…”

Further study and data collection followed. Imagine — streets built over centuries did not destroy this face; they actually highlight the image!

Kurovskyi’s discovery was confirmed by satellite photos from Vizicom. According to company director Volodymyr Kopinko, photos were stripped of urban layers and vegetation, revealing the “bare” relief of the city resembling a human head.

Descriptions vary. Kurovskyi highlights the well-formed nose and prominent chin, calling the face atlantoid, like ancient Egyptian sphinxes. Kopinko notes the eyes: “I see a determined, complex gaze.”

The face is anthropologically correct, not a deformity, with a convex back of the head. Its gaze points east, toward the sun.

The relief of Kyiv formed in the pre-glacial period. When glaciers receded, rivers Lybid, Hlubočytsia, and Skomorokh formed. The scale is immense — this relief is at least 20,000 years old.

The face spans 15 x 20 km. The forehead line is formed by the Dnipro slope in Pechersk, the “thinking” and “ruling” part of the city: Mariinsky Palace, government buildings, Parliament, the President’s office.

At the forehead’s center (the “third eye”) lies the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, whose importance speaks for itself. In the eye sockets are Saint Sophia and St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Cathedrals.
