The film by Ukrainian director Mstyslav Chernov, 2000 Meters to Andriivka, has made the shortlist for the 2026 BAFTA Awards in the “Documentary Film” category. The award ceremony is scheduled for February 22 in London, with Scottish actor Alan Cumming hosting.
The shortlist of nominees was published on the award’s official website, according to Ukrainska Pravda.
The film tells the story of the small village of Andriivka, located ten kilometers from Bakhmut. Chernov, together with Oleksandr Babenko and the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade, move along the front line, filming how defenders attempt to liberate Andriivka.
Alongside the Ukrainian film, four other films were shortlisted in the category: Apocalypse In The Tropics by Petra Costa, Cover-Up by Laura Poitras and Mark Obenhaus, Mr Nobody Against Putin by Pavlo Talankin and David Borenstein, The Perfect Neighbour by Gita Gandbhir, and Riefenstahl by Andres Veiel.
In 2024, in the same category, Mstyslav Chernov’s film 20 Days in Mariupol won.
The BAFTA Awards ceremony is the second-to-last major event of the season and is often called the British equivalent of the Oscars.
In 2025, the winner was Conclave, a thriller by Edward Berger set in the Vatican. It received 12 nominations and won four awards, including Best Film. The award for Best British Short Film went to Rock, Paper, Scissors, starring actor Oleksandr Rudynskyi in the lead role.
