The documentary “Time Machine Maidan” by Volodymyr Tykhyy and Roman Liubyy will premiere at one of Europe’s largest documentary film festivals — Sheffield DocFest. This year, the festival will run from June 10 to 15.

According to UP Culture, this was reported by the film’s team at Suspilne Culture.

The film was produced by the Babylon’13 film collective in co-production with Germany’s Trimafilm and Suspilne Broadcasting.

“Time Machine Maidan” was created for the 10th anniversary of the Revolution of Dignity. Alongside the film, a podcast of the same name was also produced about Ukraine’s young defenders.

The film’s plot follows a 21-year-old soldier who, after being wounded in Donetsk region in 2023, falls into a deep coma. He is evacuated first to a stabilization point and then to a hospital in Dnipro. During this journey, the protagonist seemingly finds himself in Kyiv on December 1, 2013 — during the “Million March.”

The documentary uses a first-person perspective format and a moving camera. While traveling back to the Revolution of Dignity, the main character tries to find his friend with the call sign Dali in order to warn him about his future death.

The main character of the film was created based on interviews with young people who joined the defense of Ukraine in 2022. Through the film, the directors aim to help young audiences reinterpret the Revolution of Dignity as a living experience connected to the current struggle.

Sheffield DocFest is one of the largest international documentary and interactive media festivals. It is held annually in Sheffield, United Kingdom. The festival was founded in 1994. It has become a key platform for showcasing the world’s best documentary films, as well as innovative projects in XR (VR/AR) and interactive storytelling.
