The remains of 1,000 people were returned to Ukraine. According to the Russian side, they belong to Ukrainian soldiers, the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War reported.

“Investigators from law enforcement agencies, together with expert institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs system, will conduct all necessary examinations to identify the repatriated individuals. After identification, the bodies will be handed over to their families for a dignified burial,” the statement said.

This was reported on April 9 by Radio Svoboda.

Russian media previously reported that, as part of the current measures, Russia received the bodies of 41 Russian soldiers.

The previous exchange of remains took place on February 26. At that time, Ukraine also received 1,000 bodies which, according to the Russian side, belonged to Ukrainian defenders.

In Ukraine, more than 90,000 people are considered missing under special circumstances, said Artur Dobroserdov, the Commissioner for Missing Persons, on February 26. This includes both military personnel and civilians, including children.

Ukraine launched the Unified Register of Missing Persons in May 2023. It contains all data on missing servicemen being searched for.
