The value of Ukraine’s mineral resources is estimated at $15 trillion, most of them in the regions attacked by Russia
The value of all Ukraine’s mineral resources is estimated at $14.8 trillion, with more than 70% of the reserves in three oblasts – Donetsk, Luhansk, and Dnipro.
This is according to the calculations of the Ukrainian edition of Forbes based on data on prices for major minerals as of February 2023.
Coal accounts for 62% of the total value of mineral resources, iron ore for 14%, and less than 5% for each of the other assets. The total volume of mineral resources is estimated at 111 billion tons.
The last official estimates of the value of Ukraine’s mineral resources date back to 2005. At that time, the proven reserves were estimated in government documents as “$150,000 per capita, and according to Western experts – more than $200,000,” which corresponded to a total estimate of $7-10 trillion.
