Ukrainian Doctor Serhii Prudnikov, an anesthesiologist from Odesa, plays music with his colleagues during surgeries to help maintain focus, support teamwork, and keep a steady rhythm in the operating room.

An anesthesiologist, Serhii Prudnikov from Odesa, saves Ukrainian soldiers and previously evacuated the wounded from the battlefield. During operations, the doctor often plays music; this habit appeared at the beginning of his career. Serhii Prudnikov explained how exactly his surgeries with musical accompaniment take place. This was reported by Suspilne Odesa.

According to the doctor, music is always present during the surgeries he performs. He explains this unusual practice by saying that music helps him and other doctors work better in difficult conditions.

Serhii Prudnikov said that at the beginning of his career he had an MP3 player. Now, he plays songs during surgeries from his phone. The playlist heard during operations is not chosen by him alone — he also takes into account his colleagues’ preferences.

As the doctor explained, music helps him and other doctors keep the rhythm during surgery when the medical team starts to get tired. “When an operation lasts a long time and I see that the surgeons are exhausted, I sometimes turn up the volume and put on something more rhythmic — something to wake them up a bit. They become more active and continue working. Then, when the operation is coming to an end, we also put on something like that, and it can be even louder. It helps wake the patient up and energizes us as well.”

The doctor also spoke about how he recovers after work. He said that walks in the fresh air help him the most. “I like to walk along the Health Track. Rain, the sea. About an hour of walking is the best way to regain strength. Not lying on the sofa, but moving actively,” the medic shared.

Serhii Prudnikov works as a military anesthesiologist. In 2014, he carried out his first evacuations of wounded Ukrainian servicemen. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, he has had rotations in the Kherson and Kharkiv regions, where he was also involved in evacuating and saving soldiers.

As a reminder, doctors in Lviv performed surgery on a child with critically low weight — 750 grams. Neurosurgeons carried out an operation on the brain of a child born at 25 weeks of pregnancy. The newborn girl survived 147 days in intensive care and nine months of fighting for her life.
