KYIV, Ukraine — Ukraine’s capital endured another devastating night as Russian forces launched a ballistic missile attack on Kyiv, causing widespread destruction across multiple districts, killing at least nine people, and injuring more than 30 others, including four children.
Emergency crews continued search-and-rescue operations throughout the day, working to clear rubble, extinguish fires, and assess the full scale of the damage. Authorities warned that casualty figures could change as recovery efforts remain ongoing.
Residential Areas Hit Across Five Districts
According to Ukrainian officials, the overnight ballistic missile strike caused extensive damage in five districts of Kyiv. Residential apartment buildings, non-residential facilities, and other civilian infrastructure suffered varying degrees of destruction.
Several buildings were partially or heavily damaged, while fires broke out at multiple locations following the impacts. Rescue workers, firefighters, police officers, and medical personnel were deployed immediately after the attack to secure affected neighborhoods and assist residents.
Authorities reported that at least nine people were killed in the attack.
More than 30 people were injured, among them four children, highlighting the continuing toll of strikes on civilian populations.
Hospitals Treat the Wounded
Medical officials said 17 of the injured remain hospitalized, where doctors are providing all necessary medical care.
Emergency responders transported victims from multiple impact sites overnight, while hospitals across the capital coordinated treatment for those suffering injuries ranging from blast trauma to burns and shrapnel wounds.
Officials have not yet released additional details regarding the identities of the victims.
Rescue Operations Continue
Emergency services remained on scene throughout the day, conducting search-and-rescue operations and working to eliminate the consequences of the missile strike.
Crews continued clearing debris from damaged buildings while engineers assessed the structural stability of affected properties. Firefighters also worked to extinguish remaining hotspots caused by the explosions.
Authorities emphasized that response efforts remain active as specialists inspect damaged infrastructure and ensure public safety.
Ambulance Service Facility Sustains Direct Hits
Among the sites struck was the territory of Kyivmedspetstrans, Kyiv’s municipal emergency medical transport organization.
Officials reported that the facility sustained two direct missile impacts.
Despite the significant destruction, authorities said no personnel were injured during the attack, preventing what could have been an even greater tragedy.
Preliminary assessments indicate that four buildings belonging to the organization were partially destroyed, while additional facilities on the site also suffered damage.
Emergency Vehicles Destroyed
The attack also dealt a serious blow to Kyiv’s emergency medical response capabilities.
Officials reported that five ambulances were completely destroyed by fire, while 20 additional emergency vehiclesthat served the capital’s healthcare system sustained heavy damage.
The destruction of ambulances poses an additional challenge for emergency medical services, which have remained under constant pressure throughout Russia’s full-scale invasion due to repeated attacks on civilian infrastructure and the growing demand for emergency care.
Civilian Infrastructure Continues to Bear the Brunt
The latest attack once again underscores the vulnerability of civilian infrastructure in Ukraine’s capital.
Residential buildings, emergency response facilities, and healthcare support infrastructure all suffered damage during the overnight strike, illustrating how missile attacks can affect not only immediate casualties but also the city’s ability to provide essential public services.
Emergency authorities continue documenting the destruction while investigators assess the damage caused by the ballistic missile impacts.
As rescue efforts continue and engineers inspect damaged structures, officials are urging residents to remain alert to ongoing air raid warnings, as the threat of further missile attacks against the Ukrainian capital persists.
