We have evidence of the execution of unarmed Ukrainian prisoners of war by the russian occupiers, – said Dmytro Lubinets, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights.
The shooting of Ukrainian prisoner Oleksandr Matsievskyi after his phrase “Glory to Ukraine” is, unfortunately, not an isolated incident in this terrible war of aggression.
russians shoot our prisoners of war openly and cynically. With the consent of the commanders and with the confidence that they will escape punishment. Once again we see that the Geneva Conventions and norms of international humanitarian law do not exist for russia. The occupiers systematically commit war crimes, violating the laws and customs of war. I inform the international community about every such crime, because bringing the russian federation to justice is not only the goal, but also the duty of the entire civilized world, – said Dmytro Lubinets, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights.
To remind, on March 6, 2023 russian publics share the video on which serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in russian captivity refused to take off his chevron with the Ukrainian flag, said “Svala Ukraini” [Glory to Ukraine] and was shot dead for that.
The Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin also commented on this situation: “Even war has laws. There are norms of international law that are systematically neglected by the criminal russian regime. Sooner or later, the crime will be punished. All those involved will be held accountable to the law,” – he said.
