Russians hit hospital in southern Ukraine was struck overnight – key departments destroyed, civilians injured. Medical staff survived by sheltering in time.
A hospital in Ukraine’s Odesa region was heavily damaged in an overnight strike, local authorities reported, marking another incident impacting civilian infrastructure amid the ongoing war.
According to preliminary information, the attack injured two civilians: a 47-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman. Officials said the woman remains in serious condition and is receiving medical assistance.
The strike hit a district hospital, causing extensive destruction across multiple departments. The reception area was completely destroyed, while significant damage was recorded in the therapeutic, cardiology, and surgical units. Diagnostic facilities, including the ultrasound and X-ray rooms, were also affected.
At the time of the attack, both medical staff and patients had taken shelter, which likely prevented higher casualties, authorities said. Emergency services responded quickly, securing the site and assessing structural damage.
Regional officials have not yet released full details on the type of weapon used, but attacks involving drones and guided aerial munitions have been frequently reported in southern Ukraine in recent months.
The Odesa region, a strategic Black Sea area, has remained a frequent target of strikes, particularly on infrastructure linked to transportation, energy, and logistics. Medical facilities, while protected under international humanitarian law, have repeatedly suffered damage during the conflict.
Ukraine has consistently called on international partners to strengthen air defense capabilities to better protect civilian areas, including hospitals, schools, and residential buildings. Western allies, including the United States and European nations, have provided air defense systems, though officials in Kyiv say additional support is urgently needed.
The latest strike highlights the continued risks faced by civilians and essential services as the war enters its third year. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and damage assessments are expected to continue as authorities work to restore medical services in the affected area.
Despite the destruction, local officials emphasized that emergency medical care remains operational, with patients being redirected to nearby facilities where necessary.
