Russia’s massive attack on Kyiv Region killed 14 people, injured 22 and ignited major fires at warehouses and logistics centers as emergency crews continue rescue operations.
KYIV, Ukraine — Russia launched another large-scale overnight missile attack on the Kyiv region in the early hours of August 5, killing 14 people and injuring 22 others, while triggering massive fires at warehouses, logistics hubs, and industrial facilities across several districts, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES).
Residential neighborhoods and major commercial infrastructure were targeted in the attack. A residential improvement supermarket, Epicentr, was destroyed, along with logistics hubs operated by Rozetka, one of Ukraine’s largest online retailers.
Large-scale fires continue to burn in Brovary, Velyka Dymerka, Kvitneve, Peremoha, Chaiky, and Sofiivska Borshchahivka, where emergency crews remain engaged in firefighting and rescue operations.
Rescue teams remain deployed at multiple impact sites, continuing firefighting operations, clearing debris, and assessing the full extent of the destruction. The SES has released images showing the aftermath of the strikes as emergency crews work around the clock.
Earlier in the morning, the Kyiv Regional Military Administration reported one fatality and 21 injuries in the Bucha district. However, updated figures released later by the SES confirmed that the death toll had risen to 14, with 22 people reported injured.
Massive Fires Across the Kyiv Region
The attack caused extensive destruction in several districts of the Kyiv region.
In the Brovary district, Russian strikes ignited large-scale fires at logistics centers, warehouse complexes, manufacturing facilities, commercial buildings, and other infrastructure.
Emergency officials reported particularly severe warehouse fires in:
- Brovary
- Velyka Dymerka
- Kvitneve
- Peremoha
Firefighters continue working to extinguish remaining hotspots at several locations.
Railway platform hit in the Brovary district
Several of the victims in the Brovary district were found on the grounds of a railway platform near the logistics centers targeted in the Russian attack, Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) reported.
During the attack, train services and station operations were temporarily suspended, while station personnel and train passengers were evacuated as a precaution.
According to Kyiv Regional Military Administration Head Mykola Kalashnyk, the Brovary district suffered the highest number of casualties in the Kyiv region, with nine people killed.
Industrial Site Hit in Fastiv District
In the Fastiv district, a fire broke out at an enterprise in the village of Kalynivka following the attack.
Emergency responders later succeeded in extinguishing the blaze, including a fire involving vehicles located on the company’s premises.
One person killed in the Fastiv district, according to the Kyiv Regional Military Administration.
Logistics Facilities Targeted in Bucha District
The Bucha district also sustained significant damage and four people were killed in the Bucha district overnight.
Russian strikes sparked fires at logistics facilities throughout the area. Firefighters continue battling a warehouse fire in the village of Chaiky.
Meanwhile, emergency crews successfully extinguished a separate fire at a logistics company in Sofiivska Borshchahivka.
Rescue Operations Continue
“The SES units continue extinguishing fires and working at the sites of the enemy strikes. Information regarding fatalities, injuries, and other consequences of the attack is being updated,” the State Emergency Service said in a statement.
As of the latest update, rescue operations remain underway at:
- Four locations in the Brovary district,
- Two locations in the Bucha district,
- One location in the Fastiv district.
Authorities continue to inspect damaged buildings and search affected areas as emergency operations proceed.
Kyiv Also Came Under Attack
The overnight assault also targeted Kyiv, where Russian forces launched a combined missile and drone attack on the capital.
4 people killed and 26 injured, including 16 hospitalised, according to the city Major Vitaliy Klitschko.
According to officials, the strikes triggered major fires at warehouse facilities in several districts of the city, adding to the widespread damage caused by one of the latest large-scale attacks against the Kyiv metropolitan area.
