A new dispute has erupted around Europe’s largest nuclear power plant. Ukraine rejects Russian accusations of an attack on the Zaporizhzhia NPP facility as the IAEA confirms damage but reports no radiation threat.
The Ukrainian Defense Forces have refuted Russian claims that Ukrainian forces struck the transport workshop of the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP).
The statement was published by Ukraine’s Southern Defense Forces.
This time, the occupying authorities accused Ukrainian troops of carrying out a strike on the transport workshop at the Zaporizhzhia NPP. Russian officials claimed that several buses and Gazelle vehicles were destroyed in the alleged attack.
However, the Defense Forces dismissed the allegation as false. They stated that such claims are part of a systematic information campaign aimed at discrediting Ukraine and shifting responsibility for the risks surrounding the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
“Ukraine, as a responsible state, strictly adheres to the norms of international humanitarian law and the principles of nuclear safety,” the statement said.
Later, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that it had observed damage to the exterior of a turbine hall building at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. According to plant representatives, the facility was struck by a drone on May 30.
At the same time, IAEA experts confirmed through monitoring equipment that radiation levels at the site remain within normal limits.
