The evacuation of wounded Ukrainian soldiers from Vuhledar was challenging, but the withdrawal from the city allowed for minimizing losses, the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces says.
“The wounded were evacuated, and the conditions were very difficult because the enemy was applying pressure from the flanks, which greatly complicated logistics.
The priority was to evacuate our servicemen from Vuhledar, from positions to the right and left of it. But the wounded were evacuated.
Of course, this is war. There cannot be no losses. But by retreating to a different line and taking it, we minimized them as much as possible. Holding the city any longer would have been critically difficult for our units, and we would have suffered greater losses,” Arsenii Prylipka, the press officer of the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after the Black Zaporozhians, stated during a broadcast on “Radio Svoboda.”
