“Exercising its right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter, Ukraine not only has the right to defend itself but must also adhere to all international conventions and requirements of international humanitarian law. Thus, our military has established a ‘buffer (sanitary) zone’ in the Kursk region for self-defense purposes,” Ukrainian Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets said.
He added that the meeting discussed security guarantees in the Kursk region related to international humanitarian law, the 1907 Hague Conventions, and the Geneva Conventions, which the Ukrainian Armed Forces adhere to.
