Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Draft Law on NABU and SAPO Independence Appears on Parliament Website.
The draft bill card is available on the Verkhovna Rada website.
Earlier, President Zelenskyy announced that he had approved the text of a new bill aimed at “strengthening” the independence of Ukraine’s anti-corruption agencies and would submit it to parliament on Thursday.
According to President Zelenskyy, the proposed law includes “real tools, no Russian ties, and ensures the independence of NABU and SAPO.”
“What matters is that we preserve unity. What matters is that we preserve independence. What matters is that we respect the position of every Ukrainian and are grateful to everyone who stands with Ukraine,” Zelenskyy emphasized.
To remind, this morning a group of 45 MPs has already submitted a draft law aimed at eliminating all provisions related to NABU and SAPO that were included in Law No. 12414.
Meanwhile, the Anti-corruption action Centre revised this bill and informs that submitted draft law No. 13533 fully restores the foundations of independence for NABU and SAPO – foundations that were dismantled by 263 MPs on July 22.
Thus, before the bill will be voted in the Verkhovna Rada, the threat to interfare the anti-corruption bodies work is extreamly high, the center warns.
“Yet even a single week of delay could be enough to collapse a number of high-level corruption cases currently being handled by NABU and SAPO. Therefore, the demand to the president and the ruling majority stands: urgently repeal Law No. 12414,” the Anti-Corruption Action Center stated.
