Russia – Ukraine  war updates latest from the General Staff of Ukraine as of August 20, 2026.

The 1,639th day of Russia’s full-scale armed aggression against Ukraine has begun.

Operational Update as of 08:00 AM on Russian invasion of Ukraine

A total of 234 combat engagements were recorded over the past day.

Yesterday, the enemy launched 99 airstrikes, dropping 330 guided aerial bombs. In addition, the invaders deployed 10,459 kamikaze drones and carried out 3,118 shelling attacks on settlements and positions of Ukrainian forces.

Enemy artillery fire targeted the settlements of Korenok, Ulanove, Bachivsk, Tovstodubove, Vyntorivka, Yastrubshchyna, and Atynske in Sumy region. The enemy also conducted an airstrike on the area of Tovstodubove.

Over the past day, Ukrainian Defense Forces’ aviation, missile forces, and artillery struck one area where enemy personnel were concentrated, four command posts for unmanned aerial vehicles, and three command-and-observation posts.

Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk Direction

08:00 AM: Ukrainian defenders repelled four russian assaults. At the same time, the aggressor launched three airstrikes using eight guided aerial bombs and carried out 72 attacks on Ukrainian positions and settlements, including one using multiple rocket launchers.

Southern-Slobozhanskyi Direction

08:00 AM: Ukrainian units repelled 17 russian attacks. The invaders attempted to advance near Starytsia and Lyman, as well as toward Volokhivka, Karaiichne, Okhrimivka, and Bochkovе.

Kupiansk Direction

08:00 AM: the russian occupiers conducted no offensive operations over the past day.

Lyman Direction

08:00 AM: russian forces attempts to penetrate Ukrainian defenses were repelled, occupiers launched 11 attacks near Zarichne and Lyman, as well as toward Shyikivka, Karpivka, Novoselivka, and Drobysheve.

Sloviansk Direction

08:00 AM: the russian enemy carried out 19 assault operations near Riznykivka, Ozerne, Kryva Luka, and Zakitne, as well as toward Rai-Oleksandrivka and Mykolaivka.

Kramatorsk Direction

08:00 AM: the russian occupiers attacked four times toward Nykyforivka, Dibrova, and Vasiutynske.

Kostyantinivka Direction

08:00 AM: 24 russian attacks were recorded. The invaders conducted assault operations near Kostiantynivka, Illinivka, and Ivanopillia, as well as toward Novodmytrivka, Pavlivka, Oleksandro-Shultyne, and Novoselivka.

Pokrovsk Direction

08:00 AM: the highest number of assault operations reported on this front direction, Ukrainian defenders repelling 26 russian attacks. The enemy was active near Bilytske, Kotlyne, and Molodetske, and also launched assaults toward Myrne, Vilne, Kucheriv Yar, Hannivka, Matiashivka, Svitle, Shevchenko, Vasylivka, Udachne, and Muravka.

Oleksandryvskyi Direction

08:00 AM: the russian invaders launched five attacks toward Voskresenka, Piddubne, Nove Zaporizhzhia, and Rybne.

Huliaipole Direction

08:00 AM: the russian occupiers attacked 11 times. The enemy attempted to advance near Hirke and toward Dobropillia, Vozdvyzhivka, Tsvitkove, and Novoselivka.

Orikhiv Direction

08:00 AM: Ukrainian defenders stopped three enemy attempts to advance toward Stepove, Mali Shcherbaky, and Prymorske.

Prydniprovskyi  Direction

08:00 AM: the russian enemy conducted no assault operations over the past day.

Volyn and Polissia Direction

08:00 AM: there were no signs of the enemy forming offensive groupings.

Overall, Russian losses over the past day amounted to 1,480 personnel. Ukrainian forces also destroyed or disabled seven tanks, three armored combat vehicles, 56 artillery systems, seven multiple rocket launchers, 10 ground robotic systems, 1,672 unmanned aerial vehicles, 500 vehicles, and three units of special equipment.
