Artist Olena Medvedieva presented an embroidered collection of poems by the late Rivne-born poet Maksym Kryvtsov. The book contains 33 of his works. The embroidery took the artist a year and a half to complete.

On October 28, artist Olena Medvedieva presented an embroidered book of poems titled To Bloom Like a Violet by Maksym Kryvtsov, a Ukrainian poet and serviceman who was killed in action. This was reported by Suspilne.

“He is a poet of international stature, a person who allowed himself freedom in both words and life, a person who stood up to defend Ukraine and defended his vision through poetic expression. I constantly use my own technique, which I call ‘threadography.’ Was it difficult? Yes and no, because the texts are quite profound. Some are optimistic, while others reflect the realities of war,” the artist said.

According to Olena Medvedieva, she spent a year and a half creating the collection. It is her twelfth folio, meaning an embroidered book in A3 format or larger.

“When it is heard, when it is presented, when people read it for years to come, his life will be there,” the embroiderer added.

The title of the embroidered collection, To Bloom Like a Violet, is linked to the final work by Maksym Kryvtsov, which contained the lines: “My torn hands will sprout violets in spring.” Olena Medvedieva’s embroidered book contains 33 poems by the fallen serviceman.

“And the embroidered book by Maksym Kryvtsov, our fellow countryman, poet and serviceman who fell in battle, is truly an act of remembrance, honour and respect for him. As a poet, as a defender, and for his parents, who never stop loving him,” said Ruslana Bronovytska, who attended the presentation.

Oksana Filipchuk, another visitor to the presentation, commented on the artist’s work:

“Olena Medvedieva has created something special — she embroidered a book, and this book will be an eternal memory, a remembrance of Maksym Kryvtsov’s life, work, patriotism and personality.”
